Whilst it is only a small addition to the equipment, it is also one of the most crucial ones. There are different choices available for insulation in Stability Chambers. In this article, we discuss why PUF insulation is a better choice than other methods.

PUF or Polyutherane Foam is one of the best commercially available choices for insulation materials when it comes to stability chambers. With great thermal insulating properties and extremely low vapor and moisture permeability, it offers unbeatable resistance to water absorption. It caters to a high mechanical strength relatively whilst being low density, which is very crucial to the mobility of Stability Chambers. Apart from being low density, the PUF insulation also offers commercial benefits, as it gives quality at a cheaper cost. The key features of PUF or Polyurethane Foam are discussed further.

The particular reason for PUF or Polyurethane is comparatively as effective as an insulator is the exorbitant proportion of non-connected closed microcells filled which inert gasses which range to a minimum of 90 percent. The most commonly used PUF in the Walk in stability chamber is R-11, also known as trichlorofluoromethane. Due to environmental concerns, the newer replacement for foaming agents is being looked into. Possible replacements include hydrocarbons, carbon dioxide and hydrofluorocarbons as substitutes.

PUF is also used in Cold Chambers as an insulator and it allows management of the weight of the equipment due to low density. Polyurethane foams can be applied and used dynamically. This is also the reason it is used in Photostability chambers. It can be applied as rigid boards or as slabs but is also diversely used as pre-formed pipes of different shapes and sizes. The pliability of PUF makes it one of the best insulators in commercial use.

PUF is also used as insulation in BOD incubators, chill rooms, cold stores and relevant applications as foam. They can also be used as sandwich panels integrating foam slabs for Pre-fabricated modular panel construction
